Brand new!

Day by Day

Here is a straightforward, no-nonsense journey into the Bible that’s suitable for personal or small group study.

Not bound by the constraints of pop religion, it offers a fresh look at familiar passages and frank evaluation of interpretive issues.

The format is conducive to one-year study but is easily adapted for other uses. As Richard of Chichester and a memorable song say, its purpose is to help you see Christ more clearly, love Christ more deadly and follow Christ more nearly, day by day.

Book cover titled 'Change of Heart: A Wesleyan Spirituality' by James A. Hopwood; featuring portraits of two clergymen, one older with white hair and the other with curly gray hair, dressed in black clerical attire.

Still fresh!

Change of Heart

In accessible, non-academic style, this book introduces John and Charles Wesley and the rich theological and cultural heritage of the movement they founded.

It weaves historical and theological narrative with the personal testimony of a second-career pastor who “married into” the United Methodist Church, was led by God to seek ordination as a pastor and remains loyal to it after 30 years of ministry.

Book cover titled 'Keeping Christmas' by James A. Hopwood with a dark background, gold and white Christmas-themed illustrations, including a Christmas ornament, stars, and snowflakes.

Keeping Christmas

Part survival guide, part history, part cultural commentary — all laced with spiritual reflection — this book is about how you can celebrate in ways that are most meaningful to you and your family.

It’s not easy to thread your way through the Christmas maze, but if Ebenezer Scrooge could learn to keep Christmas well, so can you.

Book cover titled "Death Rides the Rails" by Jim Hopwood, featuring an illustration of a man holding a gun with a serious expression.

Sorry, out of print

Death Rides the Rails

Death as as close as the nearest railroad track.

That’s what the people of a small Illinois town learn when a leaking railroad tank car explodes, leveling part of the town and creating huge fires that threaten to cause even larger explosions.

Published in 1979, this was my first book and was never widely distributed because the publisher, Manor Books, went out of business shortly after it came out — coincidence, not cause and effect, I’m sure.
